RAIN: Radio And Internet Newsletter
The Copyright Royalty Board (CRB) has announced its decision on Internet radio royalty rates, rejecting all of the arguments made by Webcasters and instead adopting the “per play” rate proposal put forth by SoundExchange(a digital music fee collection body created by the RIAA).
The rates, retroactively through the beginning of 2006, are as follows:
2006$.0008 per performance
2007$.0011 per performance
2008$.0014 per performance
2009$.0018 per performance
2010$.0019 per performance
A “performance” is defined as the streaming of one song to one listener; thus a station that has an average audience of 500 listeners racks up 500 “performances” for each song it plays.

no surprise to me, the RIAA are a complete joke. i can’t believe a board of educated persons would fall for something this outrageous! i love internet radio, and have read on some boards that Internet Radio does nothing for the Artists/Musicians they play. what kind of rubbish is this! there are only millions and millions of Internet Radio listeners every day, and you the RIAA trys’ to tell the world that only FM radio gets people to buy music? OMG people, i am REALLY upset with this one! imagine all us Internet Radio listeners boycotting for good 6 months and buy NOTHING. I mean come on! iTunes, Amazon.com, MSN Music, URGE, and all the other thousands of places to purchase music online and you think this is coming from FM stations!!! urrrrrrgh! anyway i could go on and on about this one, thanks for posting this non-sense so others can see how the RIAA is the most selfish organization in the world!
